Scrambled Legs

What is Scrambled Legs?

In 1997 a group of women who loved playing Ultimate wanted to get more women to love playing Ultimate. It was decided that if a bunch of women could be persuaded to meet on a sunny day on soft green fields to learn about the game they would simply fall in love with it too. "TCUL was still having to actively recruit women to play in the co-ed league and often new players were either dropping out or just not learning or being involved as much as they could, " explains Gabriella Tsurutani, one of the early founders. "We thought that by offering basic introductory clinics and a women's only pick-up game we could provide a place both for new players and for experienced players not interested in club Ultimate." Scrambled Legs was born and is now entering it's fifth year of confirming that chasing a disc around a field is just plain fun!!

Christine England began participating in Scrambled Legs and TCUL shortly after a job-related move to the Twin Cities. "Finding TCUL and Scrambled Legs was not only an avenue to develop my skills but also a great place to meet new friends with similar interests. My previous experience with another unnamed city's Summer League was not as skill/learning focused, spirited or as welcoming as I found in the Twin Cities!"

"We're really trying to provide a positive and fun atmosphere where women can try something new." says Gabriella. Debbie Evans has honed her skills at past Scrambled Legs and encourages those who have lingering PE-phobias to try this out. "For women who have considered but never, or only minimally, participated in team sports before, I think that Scrambled Legs is a great way to get one's feet wet. It is fun, very supportive, and provides an excellent foundation in terms of skill, camaraderie and exposure to the game."

Clinics

The 2007 women's Ultimate clinics will be held Sundays May 6 and May 13 at the Lake Nokomis softball fields from 11:00am - 1:00pm. Bring both a light and dark shirt, sunscreen, and plenty of water.

Clinics are offered by experienced women Ultimate players and include instruction, drills, skill-building and pick up games. The goal is to provide a program for those new to Ultimate to learn one of the best games around and for those who already play a chance to improve their skills and enjoy an all-female pick-up game. There is NO sign up, NO fee, and participants can attend as often or as infrequently as they like. Of course, the more you play, the more fun you'll have.
