Summer League Registration begins March 15 at 9:00 AM
Register Now!
Spots in summer leagues have traditionally been granted on a first come
basis. Since we have moved to online registration and payment, the window for
filling up (for men) has shrunk each year. In 2011 we were amazed that the
league filled up in less than 12 hours. In 2012, everyone outdid themselves and the server was effectively under a distributed denial of service attack
because of all the registration attempts. The server was reconfigured to
handle the load and both leagues filled for men in under 90 minutes.
The board feels that this short of a window doesn't give a fair chance for
everyone to register, especially those whose job keeps them away from a
computer between 9:00am and 10:30am. And that window would surely be shorter
this year.
To combat this, we are implementing a weighted lottery system for 2013
Summer Leagues. The lottery will work as follows:
- Open registration lasts 4 days. If the league is not filled for a
particular gender after 4 days (11:59:59pm March 18), everyone that has registered for that gender will get in the league and remaining spots will be granted
on a first come basis,
- If we hold a lottery, each player registered (which means payment received) will be granted a weighted chance depending on when they registered.
Everyone who registers on the same day will have the same chance. Players who register on each subsequent day will have lower odds in the lottery,
- You may still register for multiple leagues and the lotter is
independent for each league
- Registering multiple times for the same league will disqualify you from
the league and no refund will be issued.
- We will over book the lottery to maintain a waiting list of people that
will be automatically slotted in if a player drops out prior to the
draft or if we get enough women to expand the league.
- Players not selected via the lottery will be refunded promptly.
- Carpools will not change your lottery chances in either direction.
Men's Hat League Returns
Rebooting the Men's league into a hat league last year had a great launch. We'll be bringing the league back again this year, with expectations that we'll be able to expand it. The league runs for a shorter, 10 week season beginning
in early June.
Minnesota Youth Ultimate Launches Middle School League
Have a son, daughter, niece, nephew or sibling in 5th - 8th grade? Minnesota Youth Ultimate (http://mnyu.org/) is launching a Middle School Hat league that complements the High School League. The league is set to run from April 7 to May 19, with clinics on March 10 and March 17. More details at http://mnyu.org/.
|
| 21 Feb 2013 |
Find all the info on the Spring League page and register at mnultimate.org/register.php beginning Feb 22.
There is still room for women. Men are full for a 12 team league. If the
league gets enough women for 14 teams, men will be pulled from the wait list so
you should not hesitate to sign up.

Live the full experience as Portland's elite men's Ultimate team competes against the best teams in the world, in the nation's hardest region. enough interest to start a middle school league in the near future.
We need volunteers from the Ultimate community to help run these clinics! Please volunteer.
We already have one clinic scheduled at Washington Technology Magnet School (1495 Rice St, St. Paul) on Friday, April 27. We need volunteers from 11:20 a.m. to 4:00 pm. You do not need to volunteer for the entire time period.
To volunteer for this clinic or in any other way, email Anna Hettler at

| Have you ever wanted to play in the Masters Division at a fun and
competitive Ulitmate Frisbee tournament? Here's your chance - a midwestern
"old stars" team is being assembled from players who hail from Michigan,
Cleveland, Columbus and Toronto. They're trying to get enough players to
fill the 6th slot at this years Regionals tournament (being held locally *Oct.
9th and 10th* in the Twin Cities!). They have 8 firm players committed,
with several on the fence, and they are looking for some Minnesota players
(men and women, aged 33 or older) to help them field a full team. If a 6th
team can be put together, it will guarantee that our region is able to send
2 teams to the Nationals tournament in Sarasota in late October - so you would
be helping the Masters Division to "represent" in Florida! Plus did we
mention that Regionals is sponsored in part by the Surly Brewery. Need
we say more?

Due the weather shortened games last night, the Tuesday playoffs will be
reconfigured. Please enter scores for the July 27th games.
- On Aug 3, we will continue the July 27th games at the point where the
game was called. If Team A had the disc 10 yards from the goal with a score of 4-3, they will start the continuation from the same point on the field. You
will be on the same field.
- This game will start at 6:15pm and be time capped at 7:20pm. If one
team is ahead by more than 1 point, stop the game. Otherwise, finish
the point. If the score is tied, play a tie breaker
- The team that was going with the wind at the point that the game was
called gets to choose which direction.
- The round 2 games will commence at 7:30pm and will be capped by darkness. Please consult the playoff schedule for
field assignments for the 2nd game. Since the playoff pools are all on the
same block of fields, you will stick to the H,J,or L fields as appropriate.
- We will either have you submit final scores for round 1 or email them to
tcul@mnultimate.org.
- After all the round 1 scores are in, we will update the database for round 2 allowing the captains to submit those scores.

2010 Fall League is approaching quickly!
Registration begins on Monday, August 2nd at 9am and ends once 42 teams have
registered and paid. Cost per team is $285. Returning teams have until
Aug 15 to guarantee a spot.
League begins on Sunday, September 12th.

Coed Rec and Coed Advanced
Thursday is filled for men. We do overbook to allow for players cancelling their registration. If you want to assure yourself a spot in a league, there were 9 spots left for men in Tuesday as of 9am on Friday March 19. The Tuesday and Thursday coed leagues are back and will be played at the
National Sports Center in Blaine. Registration is $70 and will open on March
15. Spots in the league are granted on a first come basis so register early to
ensure a spot in the league.
Monday Night Men's and Women's League
School district 279 is considering an overhaul of the fields at Northview Junior
High and may close them this year. We are looking for alternate fields but a
change in location will change the league cost signigicantly. We are delaying
registration for the Monday night leagues until we are sure of playing
locatiuon and cost.

| Games take place Saturday afternoons at 1:30 at Bossen Field in South
Minneapolis. They will start April 3 and last for six weeks. The
last game will be May 8.
Registration is currently open for the wait list. If a few more women register, the league will be able to expand to 12 teams.
Spring league is a Co-ed hat league, so sign up as an individual, and
get placed on at team for six weeks of rust dusting ultimate action.
You can sign up with one ‘carpool’ buddy to get teamed up with a
friend, but it’s a great opportunity to run around outside, throw the
disc, and sip a couple brews with teammates.
This league is not specifically designed for brand new players. It
only lasts 6 weeks, and the weather can be unpredictable, so doesn't
necessarily present the greatest opportunity for that much learning.
I certainly encourage all interested to sign up, from the beginner to
the experienced veteran.
Please contact Tom Walker (twoks11@gmail.com) with questions.

Three outstanding Minnesota girls high school players, Emily DePalma (Cretin
Derham Hall), Elise Rasmussen (Hopkins) and Erica Baken (Hopkins), were
selected to represent the United States on the Junior National team at the
World Championships this summer in Vancouver. The opportunity is once in a

We want to support the growth of youth ultimate across the country, and

TCUL is proud to announce our 2008 Summer Leagues! We are offering the following leagues for 2008:
- Co-ed Rec: our biggest league and the granddaddy
of them all! Co-ed rec league returns on Tuesdays at the National Sports Center
(NSC) in Blaine. Registration is $65 for a season running from May 13 to Aug
12.
- Co-ad Advanced: Thursdays in Blaine. Registration
is also $65 and the season runs from May 15 to Aug 14.
- Women's League: Our women's league is
returning for its seconds season. We're anticipating the league being
bigger and better. Women's league will be playing on Mondays at
Northview Junior High in Brooklyn Park. Registration is $40 and the
league runs from June 2 to August 11.
- Men's League: our Men's team league will also
play on Mondays at Northview Junior High in Brooklyn Park. The season
runs from June 2 to August 11. We offer 3 registration options:
- Full Team: 9 or more players, $265/team
- Partial Team: Do you have a group of guys that want to play
together but don't have enough players for a full team? Then
register as a partial team and the league organizers will combine
partial teams to make a fun, competitive league. Registration fees
are $25/person.
- Individuals: Sign up as an individual and we'll place you
on a team. Registration fees are $25/person
You are encouraged to register early. Spots are allocated on a first come
basis and are especially competitive for men. Last year the Thursday league
filled for men in 10 days.
Please note that you are considered registered when payment is received. All
fees are paid electronically via Paypal. Please note that if you pay with
an e-check, you are considered paid when the check clears (usually 4 to 5
business days).
If you have any questions or problems registering, please email our
support staff at tcul@mnultimate.org.

| With great excitement, I announce what will hopefully be the first
annual Spring League registration to round out four seasons of league
play for the Twin Cities.
My plan for the first year's league is to have an eight team draft
league, in the same vein as Tuesday/Thursday Night Summer League.
Games will take place at Lake Nokomis on
Saturdays from April 5 thru May 10 at 2:30pm. Each team will have 9 men and 6
women.
I envision the league as one that will have a wide variety of skills
and ages, somewhat similar to the Thanksgiving Hat Tourney that I've
thrown over the past few years. I've heard interest from club
players, people with considerable league experience, and the eager
newbies who may still be working on perfecting their throws etc. All
will be thrilled to get outside for the first few weeks (hopefully not
too rainy/snowy?/cold) and just run around. I don't feel like this
will be the best outlet for completely new players. It is a six week
league, and we won't quite have
time for the super basics, but I do envision this as a league where
players of all skills can learn from one another and have a great time.
Soon the official Bar of Spring League will be lined up, and with any
luck, we'll all head over together much like we go on to Biff's in the
summer and Tracy's in the Winter to commiserate and make new friends!
Much like Summer League, we will allow a buddy pair if both players
indicate that in their registration.
I'm excited. $30 will get you a league jersey as well as six fun filled
weeks of ultimate, stretching those outdoor legs for the first time in awhile
likely!
See ya on the field!

| If you squint hard enough, you just might catch a glimpse of summer. Bright
sun, a gentle breeze, the funky tang of your cleats on the porch. Hold on to
those summer thoughts because the Twin Cites Ultimate League is right around
the corner.
We're featuring four leagues again this summer. We'll run the granddaddy
of them all, the Tuesday co-rec league from May 13 - August 12. The advanced
co-ed league will run Thursdays from May 15 - August 14. Women's league is
back with a longer season from June 2 - August 11, and shares Mondays with the
Men's Team League, also June 2 - August 11.
Registration opens March 15. Leagues are popular and fill quickly. Men's
spots in the Thursday league closed out in just 10 days last year!
Designers: Help keep TCUL beautiful! Please submit your designs for
this year's discs and shirts to
tcul@mnultimate.org. If we pick your
design you get a free disc, bonus shirt, and individual registration for one of
the leagues. Deadlines haunt, however, so we need designs by March 10. Be sure
to check out design guidelines from
disccraft to keep revisions to a minimum.
Volunteers: We're always looking for help with the league. Be sure
to indicate your willingness to help out on the registration forms, or drop us
a line at tcul@mnultimate.org.
Looking forward to a great 2008,
TCUL Board

| The MN High School League is kicking off it's 2008 season. We are in need of
volunteers, as always. Lots of schools need help with coaching. You don't need
a lot of experience to help coach - most of the kids haven't played a lot and
we can almost always find someone to help you. If you are interested, please
email John Sandahl at
johnsandahl@gmail.com.
The league is also looking for a Treasurer. You would be responsible for
tracking funds, writing checks, and attending the board meetings (less than
once a month). This is a position that is compensated. If interested, please
contact Mike Berseth at
mike_berseth@yahoo.com by Jan
20th.
Thank you and have a nice day,
Mike Berseth
